L2L Registering

Registration Form for Learn to Learn (L2L)

Thank you for your interest in the ACE Distance program.

The first step to getting started is registering for the Learn to Learn course. You must successfully complete this orientation and assessment course in order to register in an ACE Distance course.

Learn to Learn consists of assessments and assignments designed to determine if you have the necessary personal, computer and academic skills as well as the confidence to successfully participate in ACE Distance courses. Students who do not have the necessary skills may be referred to other online and classroom-based programs which will meet their immediate needs.

You will need to have your own email address.

It is important to create an address which is appropriate and professional.
Use at least part of your name in the email address. This helps us to identify you and makes corresponding with you much more efficient. You may not use someone else's email address.

When creating an academic email address registering as janedoe@gmail.com or jane@gmail.com is acceptable. Choosing an email address such as sexymomma@gmail.com is not appropriate. You may choose to use this type of email address for your personal email but we will not register students who do not provide us with an appropriate academic email address.

ThereC many free email providers on the Internet. You can sign up for a free email account at Gmail, Hotmail, and Yahoo, but there are many others. To find out how to sign up for your email address, search the Internet for the email provider of your choice and follow their instructions.

Essential Skills Assessment Policy

Students enrolled in Learn to Learn will be asked to complete the Essential Skills Survey required by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.  The survey encompasses Reading, Document Use and Numeracy.  Students who score less than 250 in the Reading portion of the assessment will be required by the CSC to take the Communications Support course before they will be permitted to enroll in ACE courses.

Students who are referred to Communications Support are required to complete the course.  They must then re-write the Reading portion of the ACE Essential Skills test and score a minimum of 250 to be allowed to enroll in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Communications and all Math courses.  Students scoring below this level will not be adequately prepared to read the complex materials ACE Science and Communications courses require nor will they be able to read, decipher and understand word problems in the math courses.

A student scoring less than 226 on the ACE Essential Skills reading component will be allowed to enroll for Self Management & Self Direction and/or Computers but may not progress to other ACE courses until their reading score is 250.  Students requiring more assistance will be referred to another agency in order to strengthen their reading skills and may return to ACE Distance at a later date.  Students with a documented learning or other disability may be exempt from this requirement.  For more information please contact Arlene Cronin at arlene.ace@gmail.com .

You have 30 days to complete the L2L course.

Please do not sign up for the course if you know that you will not have access to a computer and the Internet during this 30 day period. Students, who do not log on within five days of receiving their log on email, will be removed and will have to re-register. Students can only register for the L2L course two times.

If you do not have a computer, there are 111 access sites in communities across Ontario where you can use computers at no charge. For more information about locations, go to www.contactnorth.ca or www.elearnnetwork.ca.
