Studying Online
How do I know if studying online will work for me?
Online learning is
convenient, practical, and often very enjoyable, but it isn’t always the right
choice for everyone. In order to help students decide if they have the required
skills and attitude for online learning, we have developed the Learn to Learn
course. In order to participate in ACE Distance courses all
students must complete L2L.
Learn to Learn is a 20 hour course that will introduce you to online learning
and help you to decide if this is the right learning approach for you. The
Learn to Learn course includes an assessment component that helps you determine
if you have the computer skills, academic background and personality to succeed
in an online learning setting. Typically, you will succeed if the following
describes you:
- Have a need to succeed
- Are self-directed, disciplined and motivated
- Able to communicate in writing
- Able to stay on task
- Possess problem solving abilities
- Are comfortable with computers
- Have reliable access to a computer and a modem
Online learning is a great fit for many people. If it’s not for you, the
academic advisor in the Learn to Learn course will provide guidance and helpful
referrals to alternative course delivery sources more suited to your style and
goals.
